The need for redesign of the property page hero section was provoked by the insight that when you land on the page you don't see immediately the most important metrics of the property.
The old design constructed in two columns - one for the property images and brief description of the property (baths, sq. ft, location, exc.) and the second had a contact link for contacting the real estate agent. All the important information was visible upon scroll where you have a detailed overview of all the metrics related to real estate investment.
This led to low usability for the users as the main reason they are looking for a property is what are these metrics for return on the investment as Cash on Cash, CAP rate, 10 year cashback.
The project consisted of 3 parts - research, prototyping, iterating.
The research on what metrics are the most searchable and important for the users was led by the Project Owner and when we had the results I started designing the new layout. The metrics we included are divided by two main groups - one is the property valuation analytics where the users can see the specific numbers for that property and the second one is the Neighbourhood analytics presenting the overall investment score on the base of all rental properties which we have in our system and giving the information about the optimal rental strategy - airbnb or traditional.
After making and testing the prototype it was time for iterating. One of the ideas which came later after the initial idea was to include an investment score which will increase the usability and the time for making a decision whether the property needs attention and some further research.
